2014 European darts open

2014 European darts open

16th seed Jabba starts the latest £100,000 European tour event in round 2 Friday evening, against the current Lakeside world champion Stephen Bunting, who won his 1st round game earlier in the afternoon.  So a tough game against a class player – never easy!  The action takes place in front of lots of German darts fans at the Maritim Hotel, Dusseldorf.

The second round kicks off on Friday night with the players seeded 9-16 in action on the Main Stage.  The top eight seeded players play their second round matches on Saturday afternoon, with van Gerwen joined in entering the fray by Gary Anderson, Dave Chisnall and Kim Huybrechts – all fellow European Tour winners – as well as Peter Wright, Brendan Dolan, Ian White and Robert Thornton.

The tournament continues with the third round being held on Saturday night, before Sunday afternoon’s decisive final session features the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

Round 1:  Bye
Round 2:  Jamie Caven (16) 6-4 Stephen Bunting

Jamie Caven – the runner-up in Gibraltar Darts Trophy two weeks ago – booked his place in the last 16 following a 6-4 win over Stephen Bunting. Caven went 3-1 up thanks to a 110 finish and moved 5-3 ahead before wasting four darts at doubles to win the match in the ninth leg for a 6-3 win only to wrap up the game in style in the next with a 180 followed by a 121 checkout on the bullseye, to win the contest.

Round 3:  Jamie Caven 6-4 Michael van Gerwen

Another fantastic result – with Jabba taking out the world champion, both players hitting over 104 averages!   Jabba is on a charge, and into the 1/4 finals, a week before the Matchplay, come on #teamjabba!

1/4 Final:  Jamie Caven 2-6 Kevin Painter

Jabba’s day ends against his sometimes practice partner Kevin Painter, but Jabba can take two great wins as confidence builders with less than a week until the Matchplay starts.
